M&M Paper Award Recommendation Form

Recommend a platform presentation or poster for an MAS named award.

At each annual Microscopy and Microanalysis meeting, the Microanalysis Society presents 4 awards for the best papers in MAS-related sessions.  The selection of the awards is performed by the Awards Committee with input from the meeting attendees. 

Nominations from society members and other attendees are a vital part of determining which papers are most deserving of these awards.  If you feel that a paper is particularly worthy of one or more of these awards, please fill out the form below and it will be directly submitted to the MAS Awards committee.  Thank you very much for your participation.


Castaing Award       ♦       Best Student Paper

  • The best paper presented by a student representing work by the student

Birks Award       ♦       Best Contributed Paper 

  • The best paper which was not invited by a session chair.

Cosslett Award       ♦       Best Invited Paper 

  • The best paper invited by a session chair

Macres Award       ♦       Best Instrumentation/Software Paper 

  • The best paper discussing new presenter-developed instrumentation or software.

While there are many possible definitions of best, typically the best paper will be represent excellent science which is communicated well.

The more detailed and convincing the information that is presented in the submission, the more likely the nominee is to win.

The paper number may be found in the M&M Scientific Program or the M&M App.
The paper title allows us to verify the paper number
The name of the individual presenting the paper (the "speaker" or "poster presenter")
The university, company or organization with which the presenter is affiliated.
